COMBINING DERMAROLLER WITH IPL AND SKINBRITE PEEL

Updated: Sep 24, 2021

In my previous blog, I briefly introduced some essential things you need to know about Dermaroller . Today, I’d like to explore this topic a bit further and share with you an example of a anti-ageing skincare procedure I’ve done recently, that incorporated IPL Skin Rejuvenation, Skin Brite Peel and Dermaroller together. My inspiration for this combination treatment, came from a article published in the Daily Mail, I wanted to put it to the test.

The Result

Before explaining the case in detail, let’s have a look at the before after photos.

The Case – Skin Condition & Treatment Suggestions

The client came to me expressing that she recently felt her skin was tied, dull and need a boost. She was also worried about the open pores on her cheeks and the general skin texture and lines around the corner of her mouth, I recommend Dermaroller treatment for her as this procedure will generally address many of those concerns: reduce fine lines, open pores, improve skin texture and with a course of treatment it will provide a younger looking skin.

I have been treating this client for many years and I know that she has a history of pigmentation, which has been suppressed very well using melanin suppressant creams and regular skin peels (Dermaquest). However the use of Dermaroller in some cases can triggered pigmentation production. This is why I decided to combine a Skinbrite Peel with the Dermaroller to keep the melanin production supressed and to also give further clarity to the skin.

During her skincare consultation, I also found that she has some thread veins on her nose area, which can be successfully treated with IPL. The combination of IPL with the other treatments, especially Dermaroller will also add to the improvement of the porphyrin activity in the skin and also trigger collagen and elastin production, adding to the effects of the Dermaroller. The advantage of using IPL as well is that it gives the skin an instant boost and plumpness, unlike Dermaroller which can take several weeks to see the improvements in the skin.

Treatment Procedure

I started with a light full face rejuvenation using IPL. Using the green light to predominantly target the thread veins, I then applied anaesthetic cream on her face and left for 30mins.

I removed the anaesthetic cream and prepped her with DermaQuest Skin BritePeel. After that, I started Dermaroller section by section.

Down Time

The down time to this treatment is aggressive, the skin immediately after treatment will feel very hot and look sunburnt. I applied a Hydratone Gel Mask to calm and soothe the skin. I finished the treatment by using Post Skin Resurfacer Balm.

The down time to this treatment in this case lasted approximately 4 days, this will vary from client to client and be very dependent on the health and preparation of the skin, aftercare is also imperative to ensure proper healing. This treatment combination will not be ideal for all clients, a lot of factor have to be considered including lifestyle and medical history, also not all client will be able to cope with the healing process. However the results in this case were remarkable and the client will continue to see an improvement in her skin for several weeks.

After The Treatment

After the treatment, we tracked the changes of her skin.

This is the clients comments after the treatment.

“The next day after the treatment, skin feels slightly dry and a bit tender to touch, but with foundation managed to cover it to enable me to go out.”

“Day Two. Skin feels very very dry today and tight. Have spent the day in the house today as no amount of foundation will cover this. “

“Day Three. The skin is quite tight today and started to peel. There is no tenderness today just a little itchy where the skin has started to peel. No makeup except a little mascara. “

“Day Four. The skin has really started to shed today. It feels amazing and looks very fresh and plump.”

Conclusion

Each treatment has very specific effects on the skin, by combining different procedures together much quicker result are achieved. This is not only based on the knowledge and experience of each procedure, but also on the thorough understanding of a client’s skin condition and history. As a skincare therapist, I always believe that only by working together with my clients and truly understand their concerns and boundaries, to design a personalised programme just for them, can we both achieve the result that we’re looking for.
